Stewed Apple

Serves 2

Step 1

1 apple, diced

10 almonds, soaked overnight and

skinned

1/3 cup (80 ml) walnuts

4-6 figs, soaked and chopped

1/4 - 1/3  cup (60-80 ml) raisins, soaked

Pinch cardamom powder

Pinch clove powder

1/2 teaspoon ghee

Step 2

Pinch cinnamon

1/2 cup (125 ml) granola

What to do; 

1. Combine fruits and nuts with cardamom and clove in a pot, add a little water

and ghee. Cook on medium-low heat uncovered for 7-10 minutes stirring

occasionally.

2. Drain off water and serve with cinnamon and granola.

A simpler Ayurvedic breakfast for those without much time is just a cup of soaked

raisins, figs and apricots with some almonds and walnuts. You can also place

these ingredients in a flatbread with your favorite jam for a to-go breakfast wrap.

Soaking nuts and dried fruits serves two purposes: it increases their digestibility

and brings out their sweetness. In addition, soaking almonds allows you remove

the skins, which are mildly poisonous.
